Jeremy Myers - Bellator 61 Interview

With so many big things happening in the career of Jeremy “Kamikaze” Myers, we again had to catch up with him and steal a few minutes out of his busy day to discuss his Bellator debut on March 16th.

SOF- You have got to be hyped about your first fight for Bellator? Tell us how excited or surprised you were when you heard the news?

Jeremy- Yeah I am super hyped for this fight. I am always am, I'd fight for 25 bucks in a strip club, so when Bellator calls and offers a fight it is definitely very exciting. I don't by any means take this opportunity for granted. I was actually looking to fight Jason Sampson on a smaller show, I heard he needed matched up and I am more than happy to engage anyone looking for a fight and then that next morning Bellator called and offered me the fight. Very cool.

SOF-  Tell us about your fight for Bellator. Who are you fighting and what are you expecting from this matchup?
Jeremy- I am fighting Jason Sampson. He is essentially the number one pro bantamweight in Texas, 8-1 with solid boxing, wrestling, and a brown belt in bjj. Matchup wise it is kind of a shitty fight for me, but I can stand with anyone and my wrestling is sharp so I see it turning into a really aggressive boxing match. Obviously, I don't know his gameplan, but everyone knows mine. Punch, sprawl, repeat. Same as always.

SOF- Do you feel any additional pressure since you will be fighting for Bellator and your fight will be aired on Spike.com?
Jeremy- No pressure on me. I am a 4-3 scrub who has no business fighting for Bellator, I probably have the worst record on the card. It is just an opportunity for me, the pressure is more on Jason, he is expected to be here, and to win. I am expected to get tapped pretty much and collect a paycheck and then go home. I have a slightly different plan so we will see how that turns out.
SOF- We hear a lot of fighters talk about their feelings the week of the fight.  With the fight less than two weeks away, how are you feeling?
Jeremy- I am feeling good, training well, eating well, just ready to get this weight cut over. I am really itching to exchange and get in a nasty brawl.
SOF- What has inspired you to make it this far?
Jeremy- I honestly don't feel like I have really made it anywhere just yet. Fighting in Bellator is cool, but there are plenty of Bellator guys who come in, get beat up and you never see or hear from them again. This fight is my first big shot to make it far or whatever. I just like fighting, I mean its way more than that. Fighting is just as much a part of who I am as any other personality trait possibly could be, so I just try to get better all the time and enjoy what I am doing. Which I am. Couldn't be happier.

SOF- When fans finish watching this fight on March 16th, what do you want their impression to be of you?

Jeremy- I really fight for myself and fight fans. I feel like I have more of a connection with fight fans than a lot of other fighters, because I still think of myself as one of them, and I am just as in awe of some of these awesome pros when I meet and train with them as any other fan would be. When this fight is over, I just hope people who see it, no matter what goes down in there, know without a shadow of a doubt that I was in there to win, put it on the line, and that I was willing to give up anything in that fight in order to win. You will be entertained.

SOF- We know Genki Sudo is one of your favorite fighters.  Will we see any of that flavor in this matchup?
Jeremy- Genki Sudo is far and away my favorite fighter of all time. I have the condor tat on my chest because his fights and the way he did things inspired me a lot. Who knows, I may bust out some crazy Genki Sudo wannabe tricks, we'll see.

School of Fight- Proud Sponsors of Victor O’Donnell and Jeremy Myers in the upcoming Bellator 61

School of Fight is proud to be a part of Bellator 61 as sponsors of Jeremy “Kamikaze” Myers and “Vicious” Victor O’Donnell. Jeremy “Kamikaze” Myers will be competing against Jason Sampson on Spike.com.

Jeremy is looking to utilize his wrestling and standup background to add another notch in the win column over the well-rounded Sampson.

In the middleweight tournament, “Vicious” Victor O’Donnell faces Vyacheslav “Slava” Vasilevsky. This is sure to be an exciting matchup as O’Donnell looks to snap Vasilevsky’s 14-fight win streak.

School of Fight is proud to be supporting both of these fighters on March 16th and wish them the best.
